I have been teaching on-and-off for the past 30 years. I am passionate about teaching young people. I love it when they learn something new and gain a deeper understanding of the world around us. I have a diverse background. I have been teaching various subjects to elementary and middle school gifted students: English, Math, Mandarin, and Money Management. I speak and write fluently in Mandarin Chinese. I believe education is vital. I consider high quality education is a necessity. I am constantly trying to improve the quality of my teaching.
I have an MBA from the University of Chicago's Booth Business School. I also have a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California. I have worked in business for many years in Fortune 100 companies, Hollywood entertainment firms, and Silicon Valley startups. But I always come back to teaching. It's close to my heart.
I grew up in Los Angeles, lived in the Bay Area for a long time, and am now living in the Midwest. I live with my husband and two boys. I have a high schooler and a middle schooler.
I have recently moved to the Vail Valley with my husband after working for 7 years in New York City at a top-tier private school where I taught Pre-K. I have over 11 years of teaching experience along with a Masters in Teaching, focusing in Early Childhood Education and have spent the past 6 months teaching virtually!
I encourage my students to explore their creativity and intellectual curiosity while teaching them leadership roles as responsible, compassionate and contributing members of the community. I support student learning by incorporating engaging curriculum, using various forms of play and hands-on manipulatives. Rather than covering broad topics, I feel it is important in studying something deep by having my students dig into a topic or a project. I engage my students by making a connection with the material they are learning with real life experiences. Ultimately, I want my students to feel successful in their learning by building their confidence and ensuring them with a solid sense of self, a love of learning, and a curiosity for life. I am available to offer the following services/classes: early literacy/literacy skills, handwriting, reading skills, math skills, homework help, science, play ideas, arts and crafts and assist in keeping track of virtual learning experiences to help your child be fully prepared for the new school year.

Karen is an educator who teaches because she believes learning is and should be fun! Serving as an educator and coach begins with discovering what a child’s interests and strengths are. Karen uses these strengths to tailor instruction so that each student can access the lesson - visual, auditory, hands on, or all of the above. Helping a child become more confident and able to express what their learning style is and when they need help is an important skill. Breaking steps down and setting goals is a part of her daily work. She also likes to challenge students who are meeting expectations so they they remain engaged and excited to learn. Karen is a public school educator who has taught in a variety of settings as a Special educator, literacy instructor, and tutor. She has experimented with new platforms to use technology in remote learning. She seeks opportunities to continue to make a difference in the lives of learners. Her vision is that each child feels successful and as they build a growth mindset, or simply can say “I got this!”.
